Kuala Lumpur, 12 July 2017 – Honda Malaysia today sets another new level and benchmark for the SUV segment with the official launch of completely re-engineered All-New CR-V. This 5th Generation CR-V offers a comprehensive suite of new, class-leading features from its exterior, interior, advanced powertrain to advanced safety technology.
Since its global debut in 1995, every generation of CR-V has consistently embodied the concept of carefree, reliable and comfortable mobility anytime and anywhere, of which 8.7 million* units have been sold worldwide. In Malaysia, the CR-V made history by being the first vehicle to roll out of Honda Malaysia’s plant in Melaka in 2003. With its innovative styling and high utility value, the CR-V won over many fans in Malaysia with a total of more than 68,000 units sold locally and sales of the 4th Generation CR-V which was launched in 2013 in Malaysia topped over 30,000 units as of June 2017. The popularity of the CR-V made it the best performing SUV in its segment.
Speaking at the launch ceremony, Honda Malaysia Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Katsuto Hayashi said, “To set a higher benchmark in the segment and exceed customers’ expectations, Honda Malaysia has shifted to focus more on Advanced Technology starting with the introduction of the 1.5L VTEC Turbocharged Civic and New Jazz Sport Hybrid i-DCD. We are very excited to show you the 5th Generation All-New CR-V that is equipped with three key Advanced Technologies, the ‘1.5L VTEC Turbocharged Engine’, ‘Honda SENSING’ and advanced features such as ‘Programmable Power Tailgate’. We believe this focus transition will lead us to make ‘Tomorrow’s Dream, Today’s Reality’. We are also proud to note that Malaysia is the first country in ASEAN that is introducing Honda SENSING, the Next Generation Advanced Safety Technology in the All-New CR-V.”
As the 1.5L VTEC Turbocharged engine revs to life, All-New CR-V owners will feel the power of Honda’s latest engine in the noticeably outstanding driving performance. For the first time in a CR-V model, Honda loyalists and new customers are given three options of turbo variants:
- 1.5L Turbocharged Premium 2WD,
- 1.5L Turbocharged 2WD, and
- 1.5L Turbocharged 4WD
A 2.0L i-VTEC (2WD) will be another option for naturally aspirated driving performance. Both 1.5L VTEC Turbocharged and 2.0L i-VTEC engines are mated with Continuous Variable Transmission (CVT) developed under Honda’s Earth Dreams Technology, to provide a balance of driving performance and fuel efficiency. Paddle shift is available in all variants to assist drivers in changing gears quickly and precisely for an exciting drive. The 4WD system has been improved to allow greater agility and light linear handling, be it over hilly terrain or paved roads for more dynamic performance.
The 5th Generation All-New CR-V received a major makeover for the exterior, making it bolder and tougher in appearance. The higher ground clearance at 198 mm (2WD) / 208 mm (4WD) as compared to the 4th Generation CR-V’s clearance of 170 mm gives it a stronger stance. The solid wing face and angular body lines have shaped the model to be aesthetically sleeker, alongside LED Headlights, LED Daytime Running Lights, LED Tail and Brake Lights, and LED Front Fog Lights. The full LED package offers better illumination, and together with Tailgate Spoiler and Dual Tone Alloy Wheels, give the All-New CR-V a modern and premium look.
Maintaining Honda’s signature concept of “Man Maximum, Machine Minimum” design principle, the All-New CR-V has maximised the cabin space not only for occupants but for goods as well. Occupants can rejoice when travelling in the All-New CR-V as the rear legroom is now roomier with 90 mm more space. The flexible configuration of the rear seats also provides convenience to owners to transport various sizes of goods, especially when they are laid flat to give an extended cargo space of up to 1,084 litres. Honda has developed the cargo space for full utilization, with up to 250 mm extra space compared to its predecessor.
The huge cargo space is complemented by the Programmable Power Tailgate**, an added convenience for owners to easily control the height and opening of the tailgate with the one-push button and Stop and Hold Programmable Height. The Programmable Power Tailgate is another premium feature offered for the first time by Honda Malaysia.
Interior wise, the All-New CR-V has been designed with the combination of dynamic and modern styling to deliver spacious interior and amazing usability. The outstanding detailing throughout the cabin, made the CR-V the SUV to be owned. With the 7” Advanced Display Audio that is Apple CarPlayTM and Android AutoTM ready, seamless smart connectivity and entertainment adds more enjoyment to any drive in the All-New CR-V. Dual-Zone Air-conditioning ensures front and rear occupants of the All-New CR-V are comfortable at an individual level. Taking into consideration occupant usage patterns, rear USB ports have been added to allow rear passengers to charge their devices easily. Drivers and passengers can savour in the comfort of the combi leather seats with an 8-Way Power Seat for driver and 4-Way Power Seat for passenger which is one of the new additional features in All-New CR-V.
Taking the advanced technologies in the All-New CR-V to a higher level is the Electronic Parking Brake (EPB), which replaces the traditional hand/footbrake; this feature also allows more space at the console area and enhances driving comfort. Honda has provided a large compartment in its console area that can fit even a 13” laptop or a medium-sized handbag. With the Auto Brake Hold (ABH) feature, driving in congested traffic becomes a breeze whereby with only a push of a button, the vehicle’s stationary position is held without the driver having to continuously step on the brake.
In terms of safety, Honda raised the standard with comprehensive overall protection for driver and passengers in all its models. For the first time, Honda Malaysia is introducing Honda SENSING, the Next Generation Advanced Safety Technology to assist drivers in potentially dangerous driving conditions.
Honda SENSING provides three categories of safety suites that comprise seven features;
a) Driver Cruising Aid:
1. Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC)
2. Low-Speed Follow (LSF)
b) Frontal Collision Deterrence:
3. Forward Collision Warning (FCW)
4. Collision Mitigation Braking System (CMBS)
c) Side Collision Deterrence:
5. Lane Departure Warning (LDW)
6. Road Departure Mitigation (RDM)
7. Lane Keep Assist System (LKAS)
In addition to Honda SENSING, the All-New CR-V offers a host of safety features that are standard in all variants including Six Airbags and the new features of Thin-Film-Transistor Display (TFT) and Driver Attention Monitor that assist drivers to stay vigilant during the drive through a combination of alerts and steering vibrations. Other safety features available are Vehicle Stability Assist (VSA) with Agile Handling Assist (AHA), Hill Start Assist (HSA), Emergency Stop Signal (ESS), Electronic Brake Distribution (EBD), Anti-lock Braking System (ABS), and Multi-Angle Rearview Camera to complete the premium package in an SUV.
The All-New CR-V also comes with many more new features such as Walk Away Auto Lock, and Eight Sensors*** to increase owner’s enjoyment of their new SUV.
Meanwhile, the top variants of this new model are further equipped with high-end features including Honda LaneWatch Camera**,
Auto High Beam** and Active Cornering Light**.
In line with the Government’s direction to turn Malaysia into a regional Energy Efficient Vehicles (EEV) hub, the All-New CR-V is the latest Honda Malaysia model to be certified an EEV***.
The monthly sales target of the All-New CR-V is 700 units and the prices without insurance of the four variants are:
- 2.0L 2WD priced at RM142,400
- 1.5L Turbocharged 2WD priced at RM155,700
- 1.5L Turbocharged 4WD priced at RM161,600
- 1.5L Turbocharged Premium 2WD priced at RM167,700
The All-New CR-V is available in five colour options of which the Dark Olive Metallic is a totally new colour for a Honda vehicle while the White Orchid Pearl and Obsidian Blue Pearl are brand new colours for the CR-V. The favourite colours of Lunar Silver Metallic and Modern Steel Metallic from the previous generation have been maintained for this 5th Generation model.
To further enhance the exclusivity and practicality of the All-New CR-V, three accessories packages are being offered. The Utility Package priced at RM1,165 includes Cargo Tray, Cargo Net, Trunk Organiser, Sun Shade and Door Protector Film, while The Urban Package which comes with Door Visor, Rear Bumper Protector and Illuminated Side Step is priced at RM1,790. The Aero Package for 2.0L 2WD and 1.5L VTEC Turbocharged variants are priced at RM5,900 and RM5,700 respectively and offer Front Aero Bumper, Running Board, Rear Aero Bumper, as well as Exhaust Pipe Finisher (2.0L 2WD only). These accessories package prices are after 10% discount, giving savings of up to RM665.
The warranty for the All-New CR-V is maintained at 5 years with unlimited mileage at 10,000 km service intervals**** at any of the 91 Honda dealers nationwide.
